ChannelWorks allows computer sy stems to make a standard
Ethernet connection over existing cable TV wiring. This specialized
Ethernet bridge enables community-wide connection of digital
multimedia networks at roundtrip distances of up to 70 miles via cable
TV.
The ChannelWorks hardware consists of a box the size of a
common cable TV converter. This high-performance bridge uses any
standard 6 MHz channel from 10 MHz to 550 MHz and supports 10 MB/Ethernet.
- Conforms to IEEE 802.1 (D) spanning tree protocol
- Offers protocol-transparent self-learning MAC layer bridging.
- Conforms to IEEE 802.3/Ethernet standards.
- Equipped with triple media interfaces - Thick wire, Thin Wire,
twisted pair.
- Transmits and receives 10Mb/s of raw data
- Has a distance capability up to 70 miles roundtrip.
- Supports single and dual cable plants.
- Frequency agile across frequency range of 10 MHz to 550 MHz.
- Operates in any available 6 MHz channel.
- Offers SNMP network management.
- Includes console port for remote diagnostics.
- Offers security to allow multiple users in the same RF channel.
Requirements
One ChannelWorks bridge per customer site and one translator
installed at the cable company headend.
