Office of Commercial Space Transportation Market Assessments

The US government Office of Commercial Space Transportation conducts market assessments. For my analysis of their assessments, see the numbers page.

There are two assessments. The one for communications satellites in geosynchronous earth orbit (GEO) is done through an outside committee called COMSTAC. The one for low and medium earth orbits and remote sensing is referred to as the LEO report. Some of the reports can be downloaded from their official web site in the "Reports" section. Here is a list of the reports which I know about:

1993

GEO

"Commercial Space Launch Systems Requirements - 28 April 1993". I don't think this one has made it to the official web site. It is briefly summarized on page A-2 of the 1997 GEO report (which also says that this was the first GEO report).

1994

GEO

"Commercial Spacecraft Mission Model Update - February 1994". I don't think this one has made it to the official web site. It is briefly summarized on page A-2 of the 1997 GEO report

LEO

Department of Transportation letter, "LEO Commercial Payload Projections", 31 Mar 1994, F. Weaver. I don't think this one has made it to the official web site.

1995

GEO

"Commercial Spacecraft Mission Model Update", depending on which date you believe from the cover page this is from 18 May 1995 or 12 Jul 1995. Last I looked, it was on the official web site.

LEO

1996

"Commercial Spacecraft Mission Model Update - 25 July 1996". I don't think this one has made it to the official web site.

"LEO Commercial Market Projections", 5 Apr 1996. Last I looked, it was on the official web site.

LEO

"LEO Commercial Market Projections", 25 Jul 1997. It is summarized in "FAA Releases Commercial Space Market Projection", Federal Aviation Administration news release, 6 Aug 1997, reprinted in Florida Today Space Online, 12 Aug 1997. Last I looked the report itself was available for download here (96K, PDF).
