All the Ships at Sea - Spot the Movie References!

While shooting this scene, Sallitt could not help but think of a Cahiers du cinema interview in which Orson Welles said, "In my opinion, there are two things that can absolutely not be carried to the screen: the realistic presentation of the sexual act and praying to God."  Welles went on to say that these activities made him aware of the director standing off-screen waiting to say "Cut."  Sallitt suspects that Welles said this because it sounded good, not because he believed it.  Sallitt's feeling is that you just turn the camera on and tell the actor to start praying.  It is not necessary to convince the audience that the character actually has God's ear. Movies show the outsides of people.
