I spoke on the phone today to Berenice Reynaud, the San Sebastian Film Festival scout who called me last week. It turns out that she's an old acquaintance from twenty years ago, whom I've remembered fondly ever since. Interestingly, the person who recommended my film to her wasn't a friend of mine, as I had assumed: it was one of the judges for the Los Angeles Independent Film Festival, to which I applied unsuccessfully this spring. That festival didn't even send me a rejection letter, so I guess this guy's opinion didn't carry much weight. Still, it's nice to see that some good can come of casting one's bread upon the waters.
