Instead, I will be taking my E51 with me and switching to AT&T. I don’t like them much more than I like Verizon, but at least the phones aren’t crippled. My 2 year Unicel contract is up on February 5, so I don’t even need to invoke the clause in my contract that allows me to cancel service if “significant changes that negatively impact service” occur.

This is the second company I’ve had to abandon because they got borged by somebody I specifically avoided.

Update: I went by the AT&T Store today. My number will be ported to AT&T on February 5. I currently have two phone numbers, but won’t use the temporary AT&T number. Since I didn’t need a new phone, the guy knew the system well enough that he was able to set me up with a 1-year contract. Right on.
