Frozen review
It’s fitting that I write this as the wind howls around my house. I’ve just come home from a movie set a frozen summer. My place is anything but, it’s a rather warm 50°F outside, with noisy gusts to remind me of the storm that’s passing through.
Frozen is the tale of a not so natural storm. Like all Disney Movies, it’s more magical whimsy than Harry Potter, but that’s what makes Disney Movies so wonderful. They’re so comfortable to watch.
If you want to judge the movie on values, then the movie gets mixed reviews. Just like nearly every Disney movie ever (except Brave), the heroine is the classic barbie figure. She’s got boobs, she’s got hips, and she’s got no waist. Her sister is cut from the same cloth, but with white-blonde hair instead of beautiful red. But at the same time, the heroine is truly that—she didn’t just swoon over a man to save her and live happily ever after.
If you just want to judge the movie based on fun, then it’s a win. Full Stop. Not only did I enjoy what Lasseter has produced as a feature film, the little Disney Short at the beginning was a delight. Now that the Pixar takeover of the mother ship is complete, I have faith in Disney Animation again. I’m only a little sad that such a well made and well told story didn’t start with Luxo Jr bouncing across the silver screen.
I wouldn’t rank it up there with the all-time best (Up takes the cake for me), but it’s sweet. It’s got genuine evil and intrigue. It’s got plot reveals that I would have noticed if only I was paying attention (a good quality). And it has that Disney magic that we all love so much.
