The Series 1935D $1 Silver Certificate was printed with backs of two different widths — In 1952 the back design was made about 2mm (1/16 inch) narrower than previous backs. The change occured while Series 1935D was still in production, so notes exist with both wide and narrow backs.

The highest known back plate number for a wide back note is 5015, while the lowest plate number for a narrow note is 5017.
