Okay, so I lied. But I had to. Half of the New York critics gave away
the film's secret in the goddamn opening paragraph, fer chrissakes, and
while I'd argue that Dadetown is a terrific and perceptive film
even if you know in advance what the deal is (note that I'm carefully
avoiding details, those of you who haven't seen the film and ignored my
request to keep out), it's unquestionably preferable to watch it the
first time without the burden of that knowledge. I wanted to try to keep
people away from other reviews without tipping them off that there was
anything truly unusual about the picture, and the only way that I could
think to accomplish that was simply to lie. Sue me.
