Strawberry and Chocolate (Tomas Gutierrez Alea & Juan Carlos Tabio)

Frequently amusing, but just as frequently didactic and often 
insufferably cute.  KISS OF THE SPIDER WOMAN did this story first and is 
a considerably better film.  The actor playing the gay "radical" gives a 
complex and fascinating performance; unfortunately, most of his scenes 
are played opposite a large hunk of wood in the shape of a handsome young 
man.  Not in the league of Alea's MEMORIES OF UNDERDEVELOPMENT.
