Theremin: An Electronic Odyssey (Steven M. Martin) Rating: 3.0 An interesting case: I think this documentary was rather poorly conceived and directed, and yet the subject matter is so compelling that I liked the film anyway. Martin omits or touches only briefly on a lot of crucial and potentially fascinating aspects of Leon Theremin's story, but he chooses to include several minutes of Brian Wilson rambling on about nothing in particular, just because Wilson used the theremin in "Good Vibrations"; that's just one example of the film's clumsiness and misplaced priorities. Nobody else is likely to make another documentary about Theremin, though, so you might as well see this one; believe me, the subject matter compensates for the mediocre filmmaking.
