I passed up an opportunity to see a 16mm print of Rossellini's OPEN CITY 
in order to attend an advance screening of this stinker; I'd like to kick 
myself.  Everything I dislike about European art films is represented 
here, and all of the pleasures of that genre are absent.  I eventually 
gave up on the narrative and passed the time by examining details in the 
background: landscapes, paintings, architecture, anything.  Dreadful.
