FAREWELL message variants Don Wiss, 5/5/98 A nice thing to add to your list is a Farewell message. By default none is sent when a subscriber leaves. Below you will find an example framework, and then a variety of message bodies. In this example you will see that there is a Subject line as the second line. When a line like that is found, the Listserv will make it the Subject of the e-mail sent out, otherwise it will have something bland. It will not appear in the message body. Because of this the body text should really start in the third line. put farewell pw=XXXX Subject: Farewell from the List Name (Listowner) ============ Message body examples (change LIST-L to your listname): ------ Thank you for being with us and all the Very Best. ------ * Thank you for being with us, Take Care and Happy Numbers. If you feel we have fallen short in our stated goals of providing a legitimate forum for [you write some text for here] through this LISTSERV, please send a message to the Listowners and let us know your areas of concern. Your feedback is one of the primary means of determining appropriate changes in our operations. If you have left because of difficulty handling the number of e-mails you were receiving, you may find the digest version more convenient. On digest, you receive just one post per day of the messages posted to the list. To receive the digest, e-mail me to resubscribe, and ask that I set you to digest. If you chose to end your subscription because the number of messages you received was more than you could manage, you may wish to try the DIGEST option, which combines all of one day's messages into a single message. To do this, you will need to re-subscribe with a message to LISTSERV@domain.com that says SUBSCRIBE LISTNAME. Once you have received confirmed your subscription, send another command that says SET LISTNAME DIGEST. You will receive confirmation that your options have changed.
