ACADEMY OF SAINT GABRIEL REPORT 2025 http://www.s-gabriel.org/2025 ************************************ From: "Sara L Friedemann" 4 Apr 2000 Greetings from the Academy of Saint Gabriel! You wanted to know if the name would have been used by a German lady living between 1300 and 1500. Here is the information we have found. We were unable to find any feminine form of that was used in Germany before 1600. We think it unlikely that any form existed; in France and Italy, feminine forms of did not develop until very late in period. If you would like to consider using a different given name, we recommend the following articles in our library: "Medieval German Given Names from Silesia" http://www.sca.org/heraldry/laurel/names/bahlow_v.htm "15th Century German Women's Names" http://www.s-gabriel.org/docs/german15f.html Many people in your period used locative surnames, e.g., ones identifying where they had once lived (though they usually no longer lived there). There are three modern places named , two in Germany and one in Austria. [1] We are unsure how old any of these places is, or if they were called in the Middle Ages, and therefore cannot recommend that you use as your surname. Please write us again if you would like suggestions on choosing a different surname. We hope that this letter has been useful to you, and that you will not hesitate to write again if any part was unclear or if you have further questions. Research and commentary on this letter was provided by Arval Benicoeur, Adelaide de Beaumont, Amant le Marinier, Talan Gwynek, Julie Stampnitzky, and Juliana de Luna.
