Comments:
I had never temped before or even wanted to. When I started with this
agency, it seemed great. I came in with a friend, not really looking
for a job, decided to fill out an application and came out with a
really great paying job. I was slightly suspicious when I had gotten
a 17 dollar an hour job dressed in jeans and sneakers. I wasn't even
tested on pc knowledge or anything. I just walked in and walked out
in less than half an hour with a job. I was completly astounded and
happy. Being that I was new to the temping experience, I was a little
naive as to their intentions.
The assignment started out nice. However, I started to notice I could
never get in contact with my job counselor.
I remember there was one incident where I was very, very
ill(pneumonia)and missed a week and a half of work. I received nasty
calls from the agency asking "do you still want to work?". I was
being chided for not calling the agency every single day I was out
even though I had called and left several messages and e-mails telling
them how sick I was, and that I needed the week off the Thursday
before. I even faxed a doctor's order to stay home and rest, which
they claim to have never gotten.
After a while I felt as though I was working more for the company than
the agency itself because of the lack of communcation, correspondance,
and interest from the agency.
Things started to get worse when I needed to change my availibilty
because of school. The assignment was wonderful and more flexible
than the agency itself.
What made me leave was the fact that I hadn't gotten paid for two
months. I loved my assignment, and hoped they would hire me, but who
can afford to work so hard for free? It was horrible; I even had my
supervisor try to get in contact with my job counselor or a competant
person in A/C Payable. No dice. No one even tried to resolve the
problem or call me back. It actually took my boyfriend to yell and
threaten weekly for them to finally send me a lump-sum check.
Horrible.
Also, they promised referrel bonuses, which I feel bad that I referred
so many nice people to them. Of course they didn't deliver on
it... and when I called a few times (though I admit I didn't bother to
pursue it)I only got told some silly loops I had to jump through to
get the bonus which weren't stated initially.
Another thing, if you are truly looking for a Temp experience, do not
go to them esp. if you are an AA. As stated in the experiences above,
you can tell they look down on any change in availibility even if
given a week or more in advance. Also, if you stop working at an
assignment, or leave, don't expect a call back. If you actually have
the singlemindedness to get another assignment from them, as one of my
friends did, be prepared to be dodged and avoided. Phone calls do not
work. Coming in person is worse because they'll either not see you at
all (because they're always out or on the phone), or keep you waiting
and then give you attitude.
I just remembered one more thing, they tried to kick me out of my
assignment to put someone else in my place. Luckily, my supervisor
really liked me and told me of the agencies intentions to send her a
"better qualified candidate". That of course happened a little while
after one of my phone tag games with my job counselor. I guess she
wasn't that friendly or nice after all.
Maybe it was just my bad experience... hopefully yours will be
better.
If anyone knows of a really stellar TEMP agency, I'd be most
appreciative.
