It is the recession of 2003 and things suck. Agencies are asking temps to register after reviewing their resumes even though they don't have work to offer. When this agency called me Michelle said there was some activity. I go, I register and meet with Michelle and Stacey. They are very professional and good listeners. What got mme about this agency, though, was the reference form. They ask for the names and detailed info from several past temp assignments. The form said they would check referrals from the assignments. They would not call the other agencies one has temped for.
Now this struck me as quite odd because the agency, not the assignment, is your present or past employer. And if you don't have permission to use the names of the executives you've temped for why should they remember you enough to give a refernce.
I couldn't help but feel the info was for other purposes. Like perhaps getting business for their own agency. I don't really know but it was very odd.
Anyway, they never had any work when I called so I gave up on calling in. This recession has made alot of agencies look very bad in that they waste an unemployed person's time and precious money when they know damn well there's no work available.
I'd rather be told straight off there's nothing than have to go through this process.
