Comments:
Distinctive Temps is a very distrustful and disorganized agency. If you are an experienced and educated person I suggest you find a higher tier agency. A few years ago the agency was very good, the staff helpful and the assignment plentiful, but all the previous staff has left, as well as, many clients. Now the current staff are condescending; sizing you up of you are fit to work for them, then if you're deemed acceptable, they offer you a $6.00/hr assignment in the Bronx. They even hire persons who don't read nor speak any English.
I recently returned to the agency in hopes of finding work. After going through their testing, again, they dangled a carrot about a job in Brooklyn and went on the explain that since they didn't know my work they couldn't send me on the better assignments. When I told them of my previous employment with Distinctive Temps, the receptionist asked why I left them and what was the reason for leaving the last assignment -- which was 20 months ago -- I explained that the assignment ended, I found permanent work (a job in television/show cancelled), and I'd also returned to school and I'm now a college graduate (B.A. Business Mgmt). Well they didn't like my answer, because in some former employee file someone wrote that I left the last assignment because I went back to school. The pussball receptionist said this was a discrepancy that needed to be investigated. I gave them the name of the supervisor from the last assignment, I was mistaken to think the pussball would follow up on this investigation. When I called a few hours later to find out of things had been cleared up, I was told they couldn't send me on assignments. I curtly demanded a concise explanation. Of course, I wasn't given one. I was angered, but I realized that anger would be a further waste of my time and obviously Distinctive Temps doesn't fit my standards.
Word of advice... the best employment agencies don't advertise in low rent job market dailies.
