My Kidney Is Your Storyline, Keith


What have they done to this storyline!?

Poor Kin Shriner. This has got to be the oddest way to get a girl to marry
him that I have ever seen on a soap. Luke gets a parasitic infection or
some such that eats up a kidney. Luke needs a kidney. So does everyone
else. So, Lily turns to the airwaves and begs for a kidney. No one in
Oakdale is a match (and everyone who isn't involved in the baby switch
storyline got tested). So Lily turns to Keith (Kin Shriner), the man
everyone blames for Luke's predicament. Luke was a stowaway; why would
Keith know that? And Keith was transporting black-market organs.

So Keith wants one itsy favor in return... Lily should marry him. This is
sad, since Keith is clealry in love with Lily and didn't read my "snap out
of it column" two weeks ago. He thinks Lily has been hasty in dumping him.
But you know what, it doesn't matter how logical his argument is. Lily has
known Holden for 15 years. They've gotten married at least twice, even
when Lily was Heather Ratray, and they have three kids together. This is a
supercouple, mister! You are not going to break them up, especially if you
screwed up, which you did.

Part of the problem with the show in general (which was pointed out in
SOD) is that with so many other castmembers involved in the babyswitch
storyline, others are getting stranded. While Luke's story brings in his
parents, Emma, Lucinda, and Keith, our pal Keith has no real supporters
elsewhere. Keith needs alternate means in Oakdale, instead of just banging
his head against Lily's door.

When Marie Wilson was interviewed in SOD, she wondered what it wold be
like to have her character paired with Shriner's, even though they were
father-daughter on another show. Well, that was *another show* and it
would work in that Lily and Meg have an animus between them. It would
involve Keith in the Snyders in a way that would be totally legit yet piss
all of them off.

And we all know that despite the sweet words from Dusty recently, he's
going to dump her the minute he discovers that little Billy is really
little Johnny, and that Meg concealed some factoids along the way.

Speaking of Lost on an Island: Poor Mary Beth Evans. I know she is not on
contract, but she could have been on OLTL but ATWT wooed her away, and
then dumped her in storyline purgatory. After a bizarre pairing attempt
with Dusty, and Craig in jail, the only thing she's had to do is support
Lucinda, and even that's been gone lately. In fact, MBE has vanished
completely, which is a shame. Why isn't she at Luke's hospital, and maybe
giving unsolicited advice to Lily?
