Let Me Not Entertain You
Why AMC's Thanksgiving left a bad taste in my
head
You know, why is Erica hosting Thanksgiving
Dinner for the third year in a row at the Valley Inn? She might not cook but she
could cater, and I don't quite understand why it's at the
hotel.
Well, I do. AMC is saving money
so once again, they are putting a bunch of people in one of the bigger sets. And
I do know that in real life people do go to restaurants for Thanksgiving. But
this is a SOAP and it's supposed to be about hearth and home, not catering!
Also, I know Rebecca Buddig is leaving, but why does AMC have to make their
Thanksgivings disasters? Wacky Thanksgivings are best left to the Quatermaines
up in Port Charles in the world of General
Hospital!
We did actually see the
Chandlers at home, but that was an excuse for JR to humiliate Di by screening a
tape of her days as a stripper. Now, why didn't Adam find this earlier when he
was sure Di was not Dixie?
Perhaps they
can show a porno of Di at
Christmastime...
You know, maybe the
set for the Martin house is in storage, but Tad's house is used pretty
regularly. Why not have a Martin's Thanksgiving there? I realize that soaps have
strayed far from their origins, but once a year, couldn't we just have a nice
family moment? People expect a nice Thanksgiving on the soaps, not a fiesta of
one-upmanship and degradation. That's what New Year's Eve is
for!
As I write this, I just viewed the
1989 Christmas Eve episode of Another World, and Ada's grandson made her say her
annual observations of the tree, and you had a real sense of continuity. So
watching Erica host a Thanksgiving three years in a row that pits natural
enemies around the table is not what I am expecting.
I am not saying that everything in the
Thanksgiving episode has to be pleasant, but instead of humiliating Di, why not
have her on the outside looking in and feeling blue and then at the last minute,
Del returns from New York to surprise her with dinner?
In other news: My catsitter screwed up
my AMC viewing so I missed all of Kate Collins' stint as Janet Dillon last week,
but I cannot imagine anything she did being justification for the destruction of
the character of Amanda Dillon. How did one of the best child characters played
by a terrific little actress get morphed into Amoral Skankette Plus? Why not
just create a new skanky character then?
Oy.
I continue to feel bad for James
Scott (Ethan) and myself. Ethan is rarely seen. He had a token scene at
Thanksgiving with Simone, and that's a shame. Meanwhile, I feel sorry for myself
because I never get to see him shirtless anymore, which is odd since Simone is a
sex kitten.
This all makes me wonder
about Kendall. What are they doing to her love life? As much as I appreciate her
loving friendship with Greenlee, it's a disservice to Alicia Minshew's fans to
have her loveless this long? She had Ryan, she lost Ryan, and moved onto Ethan,
and very quickly lost him. I am not completely sure why they even broke up. Now
she's is a spite marriage with his father Zach, and might be falling for him,
although again, I am not sure why.
I
just want Kendall to be happy. Is that so
wrong?
Well, there is some good news...
Eden Riegel is coming back soon for a short return to her Bianca Montgomery
role. So, stay tuned, and Happy Thankgiving!
