The Joy of MotelsRoute 101 provides a bevy of old-style
motels
The drive from Seattle to San Francisco took us
several days and 1000 miles, most of it quite beautiful. Lots of motels along the way. In Florence, the Le
Chateau motel offered a pool and a jacuzzi. The Econolodge back in Portland was
clean and quiet. One of the nicest, though, was the Curly Redwood Lodge in
Crescent City, CA. The entire place was made from the wood of one Redwood tree.
Every room is paired to its own parking spot. It was quite spacious and woody.
It was like being back in the 1960s, in a great
way.
After a horrible dinner at the Apple Peddler, we went to the local fair and learned all about body piercing and tsunamis. The next day, we drove through Eureka , where we had lunch and walked around a bit, and got to see old Victorian buildings and a nice deco cinema. Posted: Fri - August 5, 2005 at 02:23 PM |
