Shlach Manes

Purim intersected with Shabbat this year

I had a nice nap after visiting Yafo. Hanoch picked me up at the hotel. A note on the hotel desk staff--they were always very nice but I always felt like I was interrupting their personal conversations. The hotel was adequate but a bit lacking. But it was safe if not always clean, and breakfast was immaculate and fantastic, and full of vegetables. Israelis have veggies at every meal.

Before going to Hanoch's house in Ramat Hasharon, one of the nicest of Tel Aviv's suburbs, we stopped at the spot where Yitzhak Rabin was shot. It's right next to an elevated plaza. Candles and a flag adorn the spot turned into a memorial.

I met Hanoch's son and daughter and their children at a shabbat dinner. Another child lives in the U.S. Dan is from Queens and we talked in English while everyone else pretty much stuck to Hebrew, which I truly do not understand.

The kids and grandkids came in costume, and I was given some schlach manes (treats) for the holiday by the grandchildren. [Click here to see the photos. ]
