Around Columbo
I spent the afternoon visiting the OLM Macan
Markar building near the Indian Ocean.
This morning, Mohideen was like a real brother to
me and ushered me first to an optometry office, then got his Rotarian friend on
the phone, and then took me to Durdan's hospital (which ironically was a block
or two from my hotel). I was seen by an ophthalmologist who seemed convinced I
have rosacea (I don't) and advised I take one of the eyedrop Rxs I brought with
me.
Later on, I went with Fahima and
Eddie to the building in the main downtown area where the family owns a building
and has its jewelry firm. We visited several flats that had been renovated. The
"halls" of the building are more like wide, covered walkways rather than
hallways you would see in an apartment building back home. The flats are on the
front side of the building and the backs of these covered walkways overlook the
backyards of the building.
OLM Macan
Markar Ltd. is a jewelry firm that is more than 160 years old. We saw some
spectacular jewels there.
