9 December 1998: Art's History?

Imagine for a moment you are an artist--painter, writer, filmmaker, musician. Imagine dying and all of your work literally being thrown into dumpsters because there was no money or room for storing it properly. These scenarios do happen because more often than not, artists with AIDS have a lot to worry about, and worrying ahead to the proper care and storage of their life's work is often not a priority. So the people who often leave behind the most evidence of their psyches often lose that immortality.

The Alliance for the Art's Estate Project, along with other projects, works toward informing artists on who to preserve and plan for adequately protecting their oeuvres. Click here for more info and a look at a virtual museum of preserved works.

I learned a lot more about this project from R, the boyfriend of my pal J. I am also looking into working on a project with them; one that will reach a lot more people than my little scribblings here on the Internet, which frankly, very few, if any, read.

More on all this later.
