Using screen, tmux, and mosh on Panix

Screen is a full-screen window manager that lets users maintain continuity of processes between sessions.

tmux stands for "Terminal Multiplexer", and allows multiple terminals to be run from a single screen, or to run in the background.

mosh is a remote terminal application which supports roaming and uses intelligent local echo to enable stable shell sessions on intermittent and high-latency connections.

Using any of these carelessly can result in excessive consumption of resources. Therefore we have established the following policy for using them:

Please be considerate of the hundreds of other users on our network, and do not consume excessive system resources. We may terminate some of your non-active sessions if you are.

We are not likely to kill an active (non-idle) session.
