I assembled a white gold necklace - they give me the pieces of chain and the clasps, jump rings, etc. I put them all together and weld everything closed. I attached a small diamond to the chain with a platinum jump ring. It has to be platinum since gold is too soft and the diamond would wear it down.
seed
pearl earrings
I have also been making earrings with small seed pearls. I weld a wire to an earring post and thread the pearls onto the wire. I use the laser welder to ball up a little bit of excess wire to prevent the pearls from coming off. It is tricky because pearls are very delicate and the heat from the laser can damage them.
pearl
charm
I used a larger pearl to make a charm by attaching the pearl to a jump ring. These are one of my favorites because the pearls have a pink sheen to them.
hammered
rings
I've also been making hammered rings. I get a coil of wire and I cut it into pieces. I solder them into rings rather than laser them. The laser welder creates a strong connection on small pieces but with such a thick wire, only the outer edge would be connected with a gap in the middle. The solder creates a stronger connection. I hammer facets onto the rings and they get put through a tumbler for 4 to 5 hours. The tumbler is full of rubber pieces that polish the rings.
