How Jewelry Is Made

Here is a new ring I learned how to do recently. After the casting comes to us
from the company that casts all our materials, it has an uneven surface and excess metal where
the gold was poured into the mold. So I sand the surface and remove the excess metal. We have a
putty like material that softens when heated. I use it to put the ring into a clamp to prevent
the clamp from scratching the ring and to stabilize the prongs while I set the stones. The
diamonds in this ring are rose cut, which means they have a flat bottom and triangular facets on
the top. After I set the diamonds I remove the ring from the putty and neaten everything up before
polishing it.
