Morning in Paris

Jetlag still has us on a weird schedule. We intended to take a
quick nap yesterday but accidentally slept for about 3 hours waking
up at 6 so we couldn't sleep last night.

At a certain point we gave up and decided to just have an early
start to the day. We found a small bakery nearby that we knew would
be good when we showed up just before they opened and there already
was a small line. And they were locals too!

Some places we've passed got famous on social media and have long
lines of tourists. So when we see locals lining up, it's a good
sign. We had a croissant that had some layers of chocolate flavored
dough and a kouign amann. Kouign amann is a pastry from Bretagne
that is similar to a croissant but made with salted butter and a
sugar crust so it has a salted caramel crust around it.

We took a long walk to the waterfront across from the Eiffel Tower.
On the way we saw the Arc de Triomphe in the distance.

Across the river from the Eiffel Tower is
an elevated plaza with a beautiful view of the tower. It was a
pretty popular spot for people to take pictures, we saw a lot of
couples taking wedding photos, several groups of people dressed
very formally, girls in prom dresses, one girl with birthday
balloons, and many people like us who didn't dress up but still
took lots of pictures! We took the metro back to our Airbnb to
get ready for our lunch reservation.

In NYC, people always stop and ask me for directions. More often
than anyone else I know! When we got off the metro, we got lost in
the station trying to find the exit. Unlike in NYC, in the Paris
metro some of the entrances and exits are separate and you can't
leave via the entrance. While we were wandering around a French
couple stopped me and asked for directions! And it didn't sound
like it was their second language. Unfortunately I couldn't help
them because we were lost too, but I couldn't believe they asked
me of all people. I had my backpack and my film camera around my
neck so I think I looked very much like a tourist.
