So, I came across this story with the headline, “Desperate For Workers, Us Restaurants and Stores Raise Pay.”

This is not desperation, this is basic economics.

There are fewer people available for these jobs, both because they have found other positions during the shutdown, and because the disruption to childcare has made working more difficult.
