The page was unavailable for a short period from Wednesday to Saturday, due to upgrades to my ISP's web server. My apologies to anyone who was trying to access the page at this time.

Will the person named 'Ko Gigi' who posted to the guestbook on 2/26/97 about doing research on Wenders and Kieslowski for their Masters in Philosophy please email me (at archii@panix.com) and send me his or her e-mail address as soon as possible? Thanks!
Lisbon Story was shown at New York City's Anthology Film Archives from 8/1-8/14. I saw it last Tuesday and was very happy that I caught it in a theater before it's (crosing my fingers) released to video.
Wenders (along with Michael Stipe) is on the cover of Ray Gun magazine's August issue.

If you ever registered to receive e-mailed updates about the page from the main page instead of this (the updates) page, you should re-register from the updates page now.
Attention Wenders fans!
Lisbon Story is being shown at New York City's Anthology Film Archives beginning this August 1st! Contact AFA for showtimes and theater location.
I've finally begun to add notes to the soundtrack page.
Removed the top menu frame and put a menu at the top of each individual page instead.

Added some more commentary on the nature of Winter's character in the film.Fine tuned the site's design, as usual.Added some cheesy JavaScript gadgets, viewable only with Navigator 3.0 or higher.Added info about the Japanese Laserdisc (3 hr. version) being letterboxed to the Versions page.Drum roll, please... For all who've wondered as I have, I've finally gotten around to posting an 'explanation' to Claire's cryptic pet name for Gene, Broken Ladder. |

I added a page of recommended readings and viewings. All the items on the page are available for purchase through an associateship with Amazon.com.

There's an article about Wim Wenders and the 5 hour Trilogy version of UTEOTW in the March/April issue of Film Comment magazine, as pointed out to me by Andrew G. in his April 5th Guestbook posting. The article mentions that general release of the Trilogy version is problematic due to legal considerations, but Wenders would like the film in theaters and eventually on laserdisc.I mentioned in the 3/24 update that I'd given the appendices their own pages, but I never got around to it. I've since corrected this and you can now access them from the menu bar and the Table of Contents.

Wim Wenders's newest film is titled The End of Violence, and stars Gabriel Byrne, Andie MacDowell, and Bill Pullman. It debuts at the Cannes Film Festival in May 1997, and will open in the US in September 1997.I've made lots of tiny cosmetic changes to the site, hopefully in the interest of making the downloads smaller and faster. As always, comments and crticism on my site design are more than welcome.

Added direct links to reviews, available in appendix A, which now has a page all of its own.Gave each appendix it's own page, for easy navigation and clarity.

I've FINALLY added information on different versions as many of you have requested. I have yet to add a navigation link for this in the Header bar, so you have to acces it from here, or from the Table of Contents on the main page.To get notified of updates, all that's now required is that you click the button near the top of the page, instead of filling out your e-mail address first.I fiddled with the guestbook script so that it no longer allows you to leave any entries blank. The site is very messy right now, as I've been tryingto make lots of little design changes, as usual. Maybe one day I'll just leave it alone.

You can now have notifications sent to you by e-mail whenever the UTEOTW home page is updated. Sign up by entering your e-mail address in the space provided near the top of the page!I've made some significant changes to the site's look and feel, but I'm very unhappy with the page's design as it stands now. I've 'overcooked' it, I think. I'm always open to suggestions.I've taken away the ability to turn the frames off. If anyone complains, I'll work on making an alternate version of the site, but for now, it's much easier on me.

I've added some basic bibliographic information to the Table of Contents on the main page.
Nothing major to report. I've been doing general maintenance here and there, and slowly, subtly changing the look of the site (New titles, new fonts, new backgrounds). I'm sorry to say that it's much easier to do little cosmetic changes, which I can do in between other things, than to actually add new content, which I need chunks of free time for. But my dedication to the page is in no danger of waning, I'm just not on vacation anymore (groan).

I realized today that the title of this page is probably misleading. I certainly won't always be reporting exactly what's new. Especially considering all that there's been to report in the last couple of months that I haven't addressed. Most importantly, it seems that Wenders has shown the five (six?) hour version of the film at least twice on the west coast this fall.I've received e-mail from several people willing to pass on info about this to me, but, as I've apologetically stated, I haven't had a lot of time to pass that info along to the page.Anyone who has seen either of these showings of the film, please e-mail me or even leave comments in the guestbook and share your insight. I'll be trying to follow-up on what the story is with these showings, as well as looking to see if it will be shown on the east coast at all (I live in New York, in case you were curious).

I owe all visitors to the site major apologies. Life's been hectic lately, and I haven't had a lot of time to devote to the UTEOTW web-site. I plan to begin working on responding to e-mail and guestbook inquiries very soon, so please bear with me. Your support has been great. Now for the BIG news...Wim Wenders himself visited the site several weeks ago while showing the complete version of the film in Seattle. The incredibly nice people at film.com showed him the page and then told me about his visit.I was terribly embarassed about the page being in the shape that it was, but I plan to rectify that starting now. continue to watch this space for FRE è Oó¿ Oó¿s.
Thanks all over again,
Archie Harris (archii@panix.com)

I finally picked up the Japanese import version of Until the End of the World on laserdisc and will be putting up information on it soon.Added a paragraph on the Themes page dealing with the idea of "The Mirrored Self.Fiddled with the guestbook sign-in page so it's now (hopefully) easier to read. The guestbook can now only be viewed in reverse order.
