I haven’t been maintaining my web logs of service like I used to do. Partly, that’s because I’ve been lazy. But it’s also been a simple case of “the car is in good shape.” It doesn’t need as much service these days because I’m keeping up on it as it goes.

All is not perfect, I know. I have a synchromesh going out on the 3rd gear layshaft, so at some point the gearbox will become very unpleasant to shift. I don’t want to deal with pulling an engine, so I’ve been putting it off.. There’s other little things that bother me too, like the rubber bits that don’t seem to last longer than a year.

But today isn’t about what needs to be done. It’s the end of the season. Yesterday, the car was driven for the last time in 2012. It was a bit icy, which made for an interesting trip. But at the end of the day, I had a car with fresh hydraulic fluids, fresh coolant, and fresh oil. A quick trip by the gas station on the way home to top up the tank and that’s the end of the miles for this year.

Today, it was just time to button her up. I didn’t do it yesterday, so today I disabled the fuel pump, started her up, and let her run the SUs dry. Then the battery comes inside and that’s all she wrote.

Next spring, another season starts. I’ll get to 90000 miles. Someday.
