July - August 2005 5BBC Executive Board MinutesMeeting of February 7, 2005Members in Attendance. Jesse Brown, Sharon Behnke, Robert Castro, Ed Defreitas, Peter Engel, Alfredo Garcia, Phil Goldberg, Barry Hartglass, Brian Hoberman, Danny Lieberman, Ed Pino, Jim Zisfein, Ira Najowitz and Liz Baum. Response to General Meeting. Programs Coordinator Barry Hartglass said 5BBC had a “great general meeting” that with 40 people in attendance on a cold snowy night. Bike Repair Classes. Bicycle Repair Course Coordinator Jesse Brown brought up changing to a different bike repair book different than the current one. Ed Pino noted that the current fee-splitting agreement with Recycle-A-Bike “can cause problems” at a later point. Financials. Treasurer Bob Castro reported that the budget was ready for approval, and would produce an estimated net profit of between $8,000 and $9,000. He noted that a revised inventory found only 12 jerseys missing, instead of the original 30. The budget, Mr. Maurice was passed unanimously. Membership. Phil Goldberg reported that 40% of 5BBC members had renewed this year, well ahead of prior years. Day Trips Coordinator Lieberman exclaimed of interest in the club: “We are going to be hot.” Weekend Trips. Weekend Trips Coordinator Ted Kushner reported that 2005 trips would begin with Cape May and end with the Seagull Century. A new addition would be the “Lake Tahoe Supreme,” a ride in the Lake Tahoe area that will cost about $1,500. 5BBC Promotions. Ted Kushner is representing the 5BCC at a consumer-oriented Bike Show in Edison, NJ on March 19th-20th with other members. The 5BBC will be there with Bike New York, which has a booth at the show. In addition, Kushner, Peter Engel and Bob Castro ran a table at a Chelsea Piers show held by NYC bike messengers in mid-February. 8th Avenue Bike Lane. Danny Lieberman proposed a letter supporting an 8th Avenue bike lane extension proposed by the NYC DOT and being considered by Manhattan Community Board 4. The board debated whether such a letter constituted advocacy, but proponents won over the majority. A vote was conducted on the proposal with the following results: 7 in favor, 1 against, 2 abstentions. The motion passed. Montauk Century. Special Events Coordinators Ed Pino and Liz Baum reported that arrangements for the Montauk Century were ahead of 2004’s schedule, partially owing to registration opening on January 1, two months earlier than previous years. Total participation could reach 1,500 people. |
