Campers' Group Bulletin - Spring 2022

When spring came, even the false spring, there were no problems except where to be happiest. - Ernest Hemingway

April 1-3, Camping Trip, Camp Sacagawea Camping, Sparta NJ
Join us for a car camping trip at this interesting private facility. Formally a girl scout camp, Camp Sacagawea is now a facility for a small Renaissance fair with medieval live action role playing (LARP), weddings, and other group events.
We will have exclusive use of a group area within the 200 acre property, and have access to all the camp trails and outside areas for exploring and relaxation. Flush toilets and hot showers are available in the main house on the property, about a 5-minute walk from the campsite. A galley kitchen is also available there for potable water, microwave and freezer use only.
*** RSVPS ARE PER PERSON ***
Stoke State Forest and Kittatiny Valley State Park offer moderately strenuous hiking, about a 20-minute drive from the campground.
This is a dog friendly event! Your dog must be quiet, well behaved, and up-to-date on its rabies vaccinations. If we have not met you and your dog, you must contact a host to ask permission to attend before RSVPing.
UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE, MASKS MUST BE WORN WHEN ENTERING THE MAIN HOUSE FOR BATHROOM OR KITCHEN USE. ONLY 2 PEOPLE ALLOWED IN THE KITCHEN AND UPSTAIRS LARGE BATHROOM AT A TIME.
To join, you must RSVP and pay $53.85 on the Meetup.com page for this event.

Sunday, April 3, Meeting, Camp Sacajawea Campsites, Sparta NJ
Meet us Sunday at 11:00 AM, at Camp Sacajawea. Bring a lunch dish for a potluck, a camp chair, and we'll enjoy a campfire together as we discuss and decide details on future trips.
*** Help us by volunteering to be an event host! ***
If you have joined us on one or more of our outings in the past, we would greatly appreciate you helping us on a weekend or day event. If it is your first time, don't worry, we will partner you with a more experienced member, which will make it easy. We are a volunteer-run club that needs members to participate as event hosts.
An early afternoon hike is planned after the Lunch/Planning Meeting. It will be an easy to moderate hike in nearby Kittatinny Valley State Park. End time is approximate.
To join, you must RSVP on the Meetup.com page for this event.

May 13-15, Camping Trip, Round Valley Wilderness Campground, Lebanon NJ
The brisk blue waters of Round Valley Reservoir attract swimmers, boaters, fishermen, picnickers and campers to its scenic shore. The reservoir covers over 2,000 acres and is approximately 180 feet deep, the deepest lake in New Jersey. It has a water capacity of 55 billion gallons.
Round Valley is one of the few NJ parks that offers wilderness camping. The campsites on the eastern side of the reservoir are accessible only by hiking a rugged trail or paddling in. The campers' parking lot is 3 miles away by foot from our campsites.
We have reserved 2 group campsites that are accessible either by boat or by foot only. Pack your canoe/kayak or backpack to our waterfront sites. DRIVING TO THESE SITES IS NOT POSSIBLE. THIS IS NOT A CAR CAMPING TRIP.
To join this trip, you must RSVP on Meetup.com.

June 3-5, Canoe/Kayak Camping Trip, Hudson River Islands Kayak/Canoe Camping!, Hudson NY
Hudson River Islands State Park offers a camping experience like no other. In this complex of islands, back bays, and creeks, rich in plant and animal life, there is always something new to see. Although the park is quite accessible, it feels secluded, remote, almost wild.
We will meet and park at Stockport Station Depot at 3:00pm, pack our boats and launch at 4:00pm to avoid low tide. We'll paddle and explore the first-come-first-served primitive campsites, and choose one large enough to fit our group, and then set up camp before dinner. We will avoid paddling far into the main channel of the river, but a boat shorter than 10 feet is not recommended. A boat 12 to 16 feet or longer is preferred, for more camping gear storage, and better tracking in wind and current. The next day we will be paddling and exploring the creek and bays on the eastern shore. We may also meet some paddlers/campers at the launch that cannot arrive until Saturday morning, to bring them to our campsites before paddling further.
Campsites with a table, fire ring and privy are located on Stockport Middle Ground and Gay's Point near Hudson NY. Sites are only available on a first-come-first-serve basis. It is best that firewood is brought in as it is unclear that downed wood will be available on the island. The preferred campsites are less than a mile from the launch.
Kayaks, canoes and other paddling gear may be available at a local outfitter, Hudson Paddles, for overnight rentals. Call for pricing.

ALL PADDLERS ARE REQUIRED TO WEAR A PROPERLY FITTING PFD (life jacket) AT ALL TIMES WHEN ON THE WATER, ZIPPED AND BUCKLED SECURELY. NO EXCEPTIONS!
RSVPs ARE PER PERSON. This is a RAIN OR SHINE EVENT.
To join, you must RSVP on the Meetup.com page for this event.

June 10-12, Camping Trip, Knoebels Amusement Park & Campground, Elysburg PA
Knoebels Amusement Resort is a family-owned and operated amusement park, picnic grove, and campground in Elysburg, Pennsylvania. Opened in 1926, it is America's largest free-admission park. The park has more than 60 rides including three wooden roller coasters, three steel roller coasters, a 1913 carousel, and a haunted house dark ride.
We have reserved 8 campsites for 2 tents and 2 cars on each site, for 2 nights, in the Prince Edward Island loop. Bathrooms and showers are close by. The amusement park is about a 10 minute walk from our sites. There is no admission fee to enter the park.
Start and end times above reflect only the hours we are allowed to occupy the campsites. You are welcome to arrive any time Friday or Saturday morning. When you RSVP, you are paying for both nights. The payment of $63.25 is for one tent, which will only cover the cost to camp with the group. During the weekend, we may also split the cost of firewood, if needed.
To join, you must RSVP and pay $63.25 on the Meetup.com page for this event.

June 17-19, Camping Trip, Fairview Lake YMCA Camps, Stillwater NJ
In addition to paying the $2.39 Campers' Group fee for this trip, you must pay the Camp $61 per person by credit card on their own website by the FRIDAY 5/20 DEADLINE to attend. Please pay the Camp here. Our program will be under the option of 'Private Groups'. If the Camp does not receive payment by 5/20, you will be taken off the attending list.
Fairview Lake YMCA Camp is a very special family camping experience! Just set up at our very private and large waterfront group site, and the camp will provide organized programs for the group, and you can also arrange to hike on your own. The camp sits on mile-long Fairview Lake in Northwestern New Jersey. Their 600 acres adjoin the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area, providing access to the Appalachian Trail, the Delaware River, many hiking possibilities and breathtaking views. A fleet of canoes, rowboats and kayaks offer a wide variety of water activities. This is a great weekend for kids!
We have reserved a large camping area near the far side of the lake with a fire ring, provided firewood (!), tables, bathroom and showers, and even unheated shelters we can occupy if the weather doesn't totally cooperate! We are not taking any meals in the dining hall; you must bring your own food.
The Activity Schedule may include: Archery, BB Guns & Rifles, Climbing Wall/Gaga, Leap of Faith, Giant Swing, Boating, Candle Making, Stream Exploration, Outdoor Survival Lesson, Guided Swamp Walk and The Ridge Hike. This is a RAIN OR SHINE EVENT, unless the host or organizer indicates otherwise.
To join, you must RSVP on the Meetup.com page for this event.
