Sunday, March 24, Day Hike, Kaaterskill High Peak, Hunter NY Join us for an approximate 6-7 mile / 1500 ft elevation gain hike to the top of Kaaterskill High Peak via Roundtop Mountain. We'll also take a spur to Hurricane Ledge for a view. This hike has several approaches with trails that lead to a snowmobile trail that rings the actual peak. The group will decide the actual route once we meet. Start time is 11am. Meet in the Gillespie Rd parking lot. Only dogs that can handle climbing on steep rock should be taken on this hike. If we do not know your dog you must contact a host before the event for permission to attend. Dress in light synthetic or wool layers (give up the cotton), wear hiking boots or shoes with good grip for the rocky trails, and bring lunch or energy snacks with 1-2 liters of water. Microspikes should be carried and worn if there is ice or packed snow on the trail. ONLY HEAVY RAIN CANCELS THIS HIKE. Kaaterskill High Peak via Roundtop Mountain on AllTrails

April 19-21, Camp Glen Gray, Camp Glen Gray/Ramapo Mountains, Mahwah NJ Camp Glen Gray is located on an 800 acre reservation in the Ramapo Mountains, near Mahwah New Jersey. The camp is adjacent to the 4,200 acre Ramapo Mountain State Forest in Bergen and Passaic Counties. The mountains ring Lake Vreeland which forms the center of the camp. Started in 1917 as a Boy Scout camp, Glen Gray has seen generations of campers. The camp is now operated by the Friends of Glen Gray as part of the Bergen County Parks system. An online map and trail guide is available here. We will hike up to our campsite in this historic camp, which is nestled in the Ramapo Mountains. Backpackers can transport all or most of their gear to the campsite themselves, car-campers can have their heavier items transported to the site by a camp staff member. The camp will provide a truck, one on Friday late afternoon, and one on Saturday morning. Return trips will be arranged for Sunday morning at check-out. Everyone must carry lighter items to the campsite, approximately a 1/2 mile, such as sleeping bags and pads. Only heavier items such as coolers, larger tents, etc., will be trucked in. To join us, please RSVP on the meetup.com page for this trip.
