June 23-27, Canoe/Kayak Camping Trip, Cranberry Lake, Wanakena NY Cranberry Lake is the third largest lake in the Adirondacks with 7,040 acres of water and 55 miles of shoreline. There are 46 free, water accessible campsites along the shoreline and on some of the many islands. We will meet at the southern launch and paddle for 5 days, exploring campsites, islands, bays, inlets, and hiking trails. We will camp for 4 nights on one or more of the available first come, first served wilderness campsites. The sites provide a fire ring, table and pit toilet. A few have a shelter. Pack carefully! If kayaking in, pack very light, as if backpacking. If paddling a canoe, more equipment can be taken. July 2-5, 4th of July weekend, Dingmans Campground, Dingmans Ferry PA This campground is an old favorite in the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area. We have reserved 6 riverfront and 8 adjacent forest pet-friendly campsites on the Delaware River. You can swim or boat from the campground. There are shaded trails for hiking and biking nearby. It's also near Dingmans Falls, Childs Falls and the Pocono Environmental Education Center. The camp store, bathrooms and showers are within walking distance. July 9-11, Canoe/Kayak Camping Trip, Upper Delaware River Canoe/Kayak Camping Trip, Lackawaxen PA Join us for a river camping adventure! This outing requires that you either have a canoe or kayak, or privately arrange with an outfitter to rent one. You must be able to pack your boat with all necessities (food, water, camping equipment, etc) for 2 nights/3 days on the water for primitive camping. ALL PADDLERS ARE REQUIRED TO WEAR A PROPERLY FITTING PFD (life jacket) AT ALL TIMES WHEN ON THE WATER, ZIPPED AND BUCKLED SECURELY. NO EXCEPTIONS! You will be required to bring all items needed to camp, such as a tent, sleeping bag, food, water etc. Everything will need to be packed in your canoe/kayak. Sharing of boats , equipment and supplies needs to be preplanned and prearranged. There are no options for purchasing items while on the River. This section of the Delaware River contains mostly class II rapids and possibly some class III rapids depending upon the water level. You need to have some river paddling experience. There is an inherent risk with river boating, some paddling skill and knowledge is necessary. Meet at the Zane Grey Public Access Boat Launch on the Delaware River. This is a RAIN OR SHINE EVENT. July 16-18, Camping Trip, Worthington St Forest Campground, Hardwick Township NJ We'll be camping on several waterfront sites, right on the Delaware River. Paddlers can bring their own kayak, or rent from a nearby outfitter. You can also fish from the boat launch near the campsite. Hikers can climb up to the Appalachian Trail, and Sunfish Pond, an unspoiled glacial lake, or visit Catfish Pond for swimming or paddling, with boat rentals available. We may plan moderately strenuous hikes, or an easy to moderate paddle on the river. Flush toilets and showers are a short walk form our sites. Quiet hours are 10 P.M. to 6 A.M. July 23-25, Camping Trip, Delaware River Canoe/Kayak Camping Trip, Milford PA Join us for a river camping adventure! This 2 night outing requires that you either have a canoe or kayak, or privately arrange with an outfitter to rent one. For those of us with a river worthy canoe or kayak we will be meet at the Milford Beach Boat Access on Friday morning at 10:00 AM, to pack our boats and prepare for launch. There will be a $10 per day (or $30 total) charge to park here. We will then launch our boats from the boat launch/beach. If you are arranging to rent a canoe/kayak, you will need to be ready to go from here no later than 11:00 AM. Friday and Saturday we will paddle for 3-4 hours each day depending on water levels, wind, group abilities and amount of non paddling time. Camping will be on a primitive sites in the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area. These sites contain no amenities other than a fire ring. Tent space is limited, please share if possible. Sunday will consist of between 2-3 hours of paddling to the Smithfield Beach Boat Access where we will take the River Runner Delaware Water Gap shuttle back up river to our cars at Milford Beach. Our goal is to catch the 11:40 a.m. shuttle Sunday morning to Milford Beach. The shuttle will take our boats and gear. ALL PADDLERS ARE REQUIRED TO WEAR A PROPERLY FITTING PFD (life jacket) AT ALL TIMES WHEN ON THE WATER. ZIPPED AND BUCKLED SECURELY. NO EXCEPTIONS! You will be required to bring all items needed to camp, such as a tent, sleeping bag, food, water etc. Everything will need to be packed in your canoe/kayak. Sharing of boats , equipment and supplies needs to be preplanned and prearranged. There are no options for purchasing items while on the River. July 29-August 1, Camping Trip, Sandy Hook Gateway National Recreation Area, Highlands NJ Join Campers' Group for a summertime camping trip at the Jersey Shore! We will be camping at the Sandy Hook Gateway National Recreation Area from Thursday, August 3rd through Sunday August 6th. We have reserved all 10 sites in Loops A and B at Camp Gateway. Bathrooms and a potable water source are nearby. There are no showers at the campsites. Public showers are located at the nearby Sandy Hook beaches. Sandy Hook itself contains historic areas and other attractions, including the Sandy Hook Lighthouse, Fort Hancock, several beaches, Sandy Hook Bay kayaking, bike paths, and nature trails. Various maps are available here. Nearby are the Jersey shore communities of Sea Bright, Monmouth Beach and Long Branch. Asbury Park and Red Bank are a short drive. RSVPs are per tent, not per person. When you RSVP on Meetup please post a comment indicating who else will be in your tent, if anyone. Additionally, Sandy Hook charges a $15 entrance fee per vehicle. One car is allowed to park at each site, and there is overflow parking within a short walk, however, we hear the parking lot fills quickly on weekends. You may have to park remotely if you leave your spot, or arrive on Saturday. Car pooling and tent sharing is encouraged. Click here for ferry service from NYC. There are very limited provisions at Sandy Hook. Please have everything you need before arriving on the island. As this will be our first time in this campground we may not be able to answer all your questions. Pets are not allowed on our sites. Please note that we cannot control the weather, traffic, rare beach closings, or the occasional wait to get into a crowded park on the weekends. August 6-8, Camping Trip, Cedar Creek, Bayville NJ We will be down near the shore for camping, paddling, and exploring this interesting area. RSVPs are per tent, not per person. 2 tents and 1 car are allowed per site. Additional parking is nearby. Our sites are dog friendly. Please confirm the breed and provide a rabies vaccination certificate for the office. Cedar Creek is a truly unique paddling experience for newbies and experienced paddlers alike. The Cedar Creek water color is tea colored because of tannic acid from the roots of the cedars lining the river banks. A canopy of trees covers you as you paddle. You will not see a riff of white water, but you will experience a strong, steady current, flowing through twists and turns and jug handle bends. From its headwaters in Greenwood Forest Management Area to its mouth at Barnegat Bay, Cedar Creek provides the water required for cranberry culture and supplies a pure source of water for wildlife. Adjacent bogs and uplands provide examples of plants characteristic to the Pine Barrens. Almost 89% of the Cedar Creek drainage area is forested land. Habitats of this waterway, typical to the Pine Barrens, include Atlantic white cedar swamps, bogs (including cranberry bogs), pine and oak forests, and coastal salt marshes. Throughout this beautiful watershed, you will find wildlife and unique plant species. There is also some easy to moderate hiking in the area. IMPORTANT! All participants MUST follow precautionary measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19, such as social distancing, wearing a mask whenever needed, using an alcohol-based hand sanitizer, and no sharing of food or other items. And of course, if you are experiencing any COVID symptoms, please stay home. We have reserved all the sites in the C section, C1 - C15. They are campsites for tents or hammocks only. The sites have sandy soil, are forested and fairly private. RSVPs are per tent/hammock, not per person. Parking is limited to 1 car per site, but additional parking is available close by. There is a short walk to hot showers and restrooms. This is a RAIN OR SHINE event. Cedar Creek Campground also rents kayaks and canoes, and will transport you up stream (6 miles only). After you finish paddling, there is no waiting for the van to shuttle you back. You simply arrive right back at the campground. You must call their office at 732-269-1413 to reserve a kayak and shuttle. This is only for the 1 hour paddle. August 12-22, Camping Trip, Acadia National Park, Bar Harbor ME One of the nation's most beloved parks, Acadia protects a patch of coastal Maine where the north woods tumble down to meet the wild Atlantic. The first national park east of the Mississippi River sprawls across half of Mount Desert Island, with small portions on smaller islands and the mainland. Activities will include excellent hiking, biking, paddling, sightseeing and more. There is a shuttle bus every half hour from Bar Harbor Campground for the 7 minute ride to the visitor center where we can catch other shuttles to town or other parts of the park. Some of us will drive up on Wednesday 8/11 to Bar Harbor Campground in order to make the necessary on site reservations starting on Thursday morning. Thursday or as late as Saturday, let us know when you will be able to drive up to join us. We will be staying at Bar Harbor Campground for 8 nights, Thur 8/12 through Thur 8/19 (checkout Fri 8/20), and Desert of Maine Campground in Freeport ME, Fri 8/20 and Sat 8/21 (checkout Sun 8/22) on the way back. This campground has over 100 tent sites with hot showers for .25 for 5 minutes. The sites are first come, first served however, so a few of us will need to be there Thursday morning to reserve sites for everyone in our group. 2 tents with 2 adults but only 1 car is allowed per site. CARPOOLING IS STRONGLY RECOMMENDED. The sites are pet friendly (as well as most of the Acadia trails), but you must check with a host if your dog can join us. August 26-29, Camping Trip, Cape Cod Camping, North Truro MA We'll be camping on the outer Cape, just south of Provincetown! Enjoy the beach, hiking, and scenic bicycling in this beautiful area, or do some exploring in town. We'll be camping, nestled in the pines, at North of Highlands Campground. It is only a short 1/2 mile walk to Head of the Meadow Beach. Fun and funky Provincetown is a 7 mile bike ride from camp. The campground provides clean bathroom and shower facilities, a laundry room, camp store and recreation hall. We made the best effort to have our campsites grouped in one area, however, the campground determines final locations upon check-in. First come first served, and carpooling is recommended. RSVPs are per person, NOT per tent. The park allows only 4 adults per site. We have prepaid for 2 parking spots per site. August 27-29, Camping Trip, Promised Land State Park, Canadensis PA We will be camping at several of the many wooded sites near the lake in the Pickerel Point camping area. Walk or drive to the beach and swim, or rent a canoe/kayak/rowboat and tool around Promised Land Lake. The ambitious can bicycle around the lake or explore the Bruce Lake Natural Area. The rest of us may follow the self-guided nature trail around Conservation Island. The campground has new facilities - hot showers and flush toilets. Each site has been graded with gravel, and accommodates only 2 tents each, so please share if possible. This recently redesigned campground also has newly paved and mostly assigned parking. One (1) parking space is assigned to each campsite, in the small lot by our campsite group. Overflow parking is within walking distance on the campground peninsula. Carpooling is recommended. September 3-6, Camping Trip, Lake Ocquittunk, Stokes St. Forest, Sandyston NJ Join us for a Labor Day Weekend car camping trip at Lake Ocquittunk campground in Stokes State Forest. We will plan easy, moderate or strenuous hikes in various areas of this large park. Paddling is permitted on the small lake, but there are no rentals on site. Swimming is not allowed at this time. We have reserved all 12 campsites around the Lake. There is a bath house with private showers and flush toilets within walking distance from our sites. September 9-13, Canoe/Kayak Camping Trip, Indian Lake Islands, Indian Lake NY Beautiful, wild, forested islands offering wilderness camping and some of the best recreational boating in the Adirondacks, Indian Lake Islands Campground is located on the southern shore of 4,365-acre Indian Lake. The opportunity to camp on an island or along the shore of Indian Lake makes this one of the most popular camping destinations in the Adirondacks. All of the large, well-forested campsites offer privacy. Indian Lake Islands Campground offers a variety of recreational opportunities, including canoeing and boating, hiking, fishing, and picnicking. Here is the campground map and guide and a helpful kayak camping gear guide. Canoes and kayaks can be rented near the beach or campground office on the mainland. It is approximately a 2 mile paddle from the boat launch to our island. All paddlers are required to wear a proper fitting PFD (life jacket). Each site has a picnic table and firepit, and is limited to 6 individuals or two tents. RSVPs are per tent, NOT per person. Please try to share to allow more to attend. Pit toilets are available on the island. A new shower/bath house is available for use near the boat launch. It will be important to plan your packing carefully. If kayaking in, pack very light, as if backpacking. If paddling a canoe, more equipment can be taken (checklist). Firewood can be purchased at the campground or at a local vendor, and then will need to be transported across the lake in a boat to the campsites. There will be little or NO cell service on the lake. A short drive from the boat launch may be needed to make a cell call. There is a pay phone at adjacent Lewey Lake Campground. *** RSVPs are per tent, NOT per person. Please try to share to allow more to attend. *** A NY State fishing license (purchased in town) is required for anyone over age of 16. Licenses are NOT available for purchase at campground. September 10-12, Camping Trip, AMC Harriman Outdoor Center, Haverstraw NY The Stephen and Betsy Corman AMC Harriman Outdoor Center is an ideal destination for anyone looking for hiking, paddling, and camping opportunities in the heart of Harriman State Park at Breakneck Pond. Harriman State Park, New York's second largest park, is located 30 miles from Manhattan and accessible by public transportation. We have reserved 2 campgrounds with 4 or 5 platforms or leantos each. Each site will accommodate 2 small tents each, plus hammocks. (Small tents only please, 4-person or smaller.) Please bring a small tent or hammock. September 17-19, Camping Trip, Atsion Family Campground, Shamong NJ Join us for paddling and car camping at Atsion Lake in the Pine Barrens! We have reserved several sites at Atsion Family Campground. Flush toilets and showers are available near our sites. Our Saturday paddling trip may be on the Batsto River near our camping location on Atsion Lake, in Wharton State Forest. The Batsto River is a narrow, winding Pine Barrens river with clean cool water and small areas to pull out for a break or picnic. We will end the day with a half mile paddle where the river opens into a lake formed by the dam at Batsto Village. You can bring a kayak or rent one from the outfitter that will transport us to the launch site on the river. Kayaks of 12 feet in length and under can more easily maneuver in this part of the Batsto. Trip length is approximately 4-5 hours, based on the average trip length of beginner to intermediate paddlers out for a relaxing paddle. *Changing river conditions such as weather, water levels, underwater obstacles and fallen trees can make this trip moderately challenging depending upon the paddler's level of experience and physical condition. Anyone without a PFD (personal flotation device) or not wearing it securely, zipped and buckled, at any times when on the river will not be permitted to paddle with us, NO exceptions. September 17-20, Camping Trip, North/South Lake State Park, Haines Falls NY North-South Lake is the biggest and most popular state campground in the Catskill Forest Preserve, offering extraordinary scenic beauty. Two lakes are located within the campground. Join us on one of our sites on or near North Lake. The surrounding mountains contain numerous hiking trails, which lead to spectacular overlooks, waterfalls, and historic sights, such as Sunset Rock, Alligator Rock, North Point, Kaaterskill Falls, and the former site of the Catskill Mountain House. On a clear day, five states are visible from some overlooks. Intermediate to advanced hiking is available. Some trails can be accessed with a short walk from our campsites to trail heads. Paddling is available on the lakes. Launch near one of our lakeside sites, or from the nearby beach, where there is swimming and boat rentals available.
