We want you to have a great summer, so all participants MUST follow precautionary measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19, such as maintaining a distance of at least 6 feet from others, not sharing or touching items that could carry the virus, wearing a mask or bandana when close to others or in buildings, and using antibacterial spray or wipes when needed. June 24-28, Canoe/Kayak Camping Trip, Little Tupper Lake, Long Lake NY We are organizing a paddling trip to camp on one or two of Little Tupper Lake's primitive campsites. This will replace the Indian Lake Islands trip. Start and end times are approximate. Because of permits and campsite number restrictions, we may take less people than originally planned. Stay tuned for more info... Pack carefully! If kayaking in, pack very light, as if backpacking. If paddling a canoe, more equipment can be taken. July 3-6, Camping Trip, 4th of July in the Gunks & Catskills!, Accord NY Join us for the holiday weekend in a beautiful region of New York State. We will be camping in between the Shawangunks and Catskills, where a 30 minute drive or less can take us to many attractions! A 30 minute drive south will take you to Minnewaska State Park or Mohonk Preserve. A slightly longer drive north will have you in the southern section of Catskill Park. There will be plenty of outstanding hiking choices in these areas, plus paddling on Roundout Creek. Try mountain biking in Lipman Park, or on the easy carriage roads in Minnewaska. Hybrid or road bicycling is available on local Rail Trails. There is also great fishing close by in Ashokan Reservoir, Onteora Lake, Sturgeon Pool, and more. Swimming may be possible in Lake Minnewaska & Lake Awosting, plus several swimming holes. Opus 40 is a 6.5-acre stone-sculpture park in an abandoned quarry with trails and a museum featuring vintage tools. Visit the quaint towns of Stone Ridge, Woodstock or New Paltz. We have several large sites in a private and rustic campground. RSVPs ARE PER PERSON. There is plenty of room for several tents and hammocks on our wooded sites. A small bathhouse with a washing station is nearby, and larger bathhouses are about a 5 minute walk. Potable water on site, no electric. Currently, we will have room for about 12 cars on our sites. if we are given more room more cars can park on site. Additional parking is nearby. We will provide updates on this matter. July 10-12, Camping Trip, Delaware River Canoe/Kayak Camping Trip, Milford PA Join us for a river camping adventure! This 2 night outing requires that you either have a canoe or kayak, or privately arrange with an outfitter to rent one. For those of us with a river worthy canoe or kayak we will be meet at the Milford Beach Boat Access on Friday morning at 10:00 AM, to pack our boats and prepare for launch. There will be a $10 per day (or $30 total) charge to park here. We will then launch our boats from the boat launch/beach. If you are arranging to rent a canoe/kayak, you will need to be ready to go from here no later than 11:00 AM. Friday and Saturday we will paddle for 3-4 hours each day depending on water levels, wind, group abilities and amount of non paddling time. Camping will be on a primitive sites in the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area. These sites contain no amenities other than a fire ring. Tent space is limited, please share if possible. Sunday will consist of between 2-3 hours of paddling to the Smithfield Beach Boat Access where we will take the River Runner Delaware Water Gap shuttle back up river to our cars at Milford Beach. Our goal is to catch the 11:40 a.m. shuttle Sunday morning to Milford Beach. The shuttle will take our boats and gear. ALL PADDLERS ARE REQUIRED TO WEAR A PROPERLY FITTING PFD (life jacket) AT ALL TIMES WHEN ON THE WATER. ZIPPED AND BUCKLED SECURELY. NO EXCEPTIONS! You will be required to bring all items needed to camp, such as a tent, sleeping bag, food, water etc. Everything will need to be packed in your canoe/kayak. Sharing of boats , equipment and supplies needs to be preplanned and prearranged. There are no options for purchasing items while on the River. This section of the Delaware River contains mostly class I rapids and possibly some class II rapids depending upon the water level. You need to have some river paddling experience. There is an inherent risk with river boating, some paddling skill and knowledge is necessary. A poor weather forecast or poor river conditions will cause this trip to be cancelled or postponed. The hosts, and only the hosts, will announce or even discuss any weather forecasts on the trip page. PLEASE, do not post any weather-related comments. Sunday, July 19, Day Trip and Benefit, Hike/Swim/Picnic and CF Benefit, Ringwood NJ Join us for an intermediate level hike in this nearby undisturbed forest, and then for a refreshing swim in a natural pool! You are also welcome to just swim and/or picnic on the grounds. This year we are hosting a benefit for the NJ Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. A donation of $25 is being provided by your RSVP ($1.08 for PayPal). The pool day pass this year is $15 per adult (see below for other pricing), paid cash upon arrival. Total cost for the donation and pool is $41.08. This will provide you with a led day hike (moderate, 4 mi), natural pool swim, and boxed lunch (sandwiches, etc) out in the grove. Cystic Fibrosis "Feet Don't Fail Me" hiking T-shirts are also available. Arrive anytime after 10am, and leave anytime before 6pm. (You must arrive early, at 10am, if you plan to attend the hike.) The hidden gem of the Wyanokie Highlands, the Highlands Natural Pool is an Olympic size, stream-fed freshwater pool. It is located adjacent to trail heads for Norvin Green State Forest. The Pool grounds include a picnic and barbecue area. There is direct access to a recreation field (including a baseball backstop), volleyball court, ping-pong tables, and over 21 miles of pristine hiking trails in the forest. The pool will be open from 12pm to 6pm. Ken will be leading a "moderate" 3-4 hour hike, beginning at about 10 am. You can also bring prepared food or barbecue on their grills. There is also a snack bar with food and soft drinks for purchase. No alcohol permitted on the pool premises or grounds. Pool entrance fees are as follows: $15 per adult (ages 18 and above), $10 per senior (over 65), $10 per young adult (12 to 17), $3 per child (under 12 years old). July 31-August 2, Bike Camping Trip, Pine Creek Gorge, Wellsboro PA A jewel of the Pennsylvania Grand Canyon, also known as the Pine Creek Gorge, is the Pine Creek Rail Trail, voted by USA Today as one of the 10 great places to take a bike tour. The Rail Trail is a hard-packed gravel surface available to hikers and cyclists, with a length just over 62 miles. We will ride approximately 36 miles on Saturday and 26 miles on Sunday, camping along Pine Creek Satuday night. The hard packed stone allows for the trail to be a nice easy ride, with a mostly 2% downhill grade over its entire length, starting three miles north of Wellsboro and ending in Jersey Shore, Pennsylvania. Visitors come the world over to ride this amazing trail, which features towering cliffs, beautiful scenery, and hidden waterfalls. August 14-24, Camping Trip, Grand Isle VT/Ausable Chasm NY/Adirondack High Peaks, South Hero VT Join us for a road trip, with 11 days/10 nights of camping! The group will be visiting 3 different areas of interest. We will be car-camping on Grand Isle in South Hero VT Fri-Mon 8/14-17, next near Ausable Chasm Tue-Wed 8/18-19, and then Wilderness Campground in the High Peaks region of the Adirondacks, Thur-Sun (check-out Mon) 8/20-24. Each area is only about a 1 hr 15 min drive to the next! South Hero on Grand Isle is picturesque, with our waterfront campsites on Lake Champlain! August 28-30, Camping Trip, Promised Land State Park, Canadensis PA We will be camping at five (5) of the many wooded sites near the lake in the Pickerel Point camping area. Walk or drive to the beach and swim, or rent a canoe/kayak/rowboat and tool around Promised Land Lake. The ambitious can bicycle around the lake or explore the Bruce Lake Natural Area. The rest of us may follow the self-guided nature trail around Conservation Island. The campground has new facilities - hot showers and flush toilets. Each site has been graded with gravel, and accommodates only 2 tents each, so please share if possible. This recently redesigned campground also has newly paved and mostly assigned parking. One (1) parking space is assigned to each campsite, in the small lot by our campsite group. Overflow parking is within walking distance on the campground peninsula. Carpooling is recommended. August 29-30, Camping/Cabin Trip, Thendara Mtn Club, Harriman State Park NY Our friends at Thendara Mountain Club have invited us to stay overnight; camping on their grounds, sleeping in a screened in bunk house, or staying in their rustic cabin in Harriman State Park. There is a multi-tent campsite on the property, and a screened-in bunk house with separate mens and womens bunk rooms. (First come, first served for camping, bunkhouse and lodge bedroom space.) The lodge (built 1929) has heat, electricity, a full kitchen, indoor mens and womens washrooms with hot showers, and bathrooms about 50 ft from the cabin. There are seven bedrooms with 2-4 cots each (rooms are shared). The lodge also has a big main room with fireplace, comfortable seating, eating table and screened in porch. Besides hiking, you are welcome to stay on the club's grounds, and swim or boat on Lake Tiorati from the club's supervised boat dock. (Boats are available when you pay the day or overnight fee.) The weekend includes Saturday night dinner, Sunday breakfast and a Sunday bag lunch, paid separately to Thendara when on site. Thendara asks all members and guests to help with a simple chore, like clearing the table, washing or drying dishes, etc. You will be assigned something before dinner. Arrive Saturday morning to meet up with the group at the lodge, and then carpool to the trail head, if necessary. After the hike we will return to camp for a relaxing happy hour in front of the fire! Dinner will be provided by the Thendara host for this weekend. Diet restrictions can usually be accommodated - just be sure to tell the host when you RSVP. You may set up your tent at the campsite, or sleep in the bunkhouse. The campsite is primitive, and has room for a number of smaller (2-4 person) tents. The bunkhouse has wood platform bunks with mattresses, but bringing a sleeping pad along with your sleeping bag is recommended. Water and the campfire will be by the cabin. (No fires by the campsite, only in the main fire ring by the cabin.) If sleeping in the cabin, you will need to bring a sleeping bag or sheets and pillowcase. There are wool blankets and pillows available. There will also be a local hike on Sunday starting at 11am from camp. If it is your first time at Thendara, and choose to stay the entire weekend, the total cost will be approximately $45-$50, which will cover meals and lodging for Saturday night (meals are Saturday happy hour and dinner, Sunday breakfast and lunch). YOU MUST RSVP AND SIGN UP FOR MEALS BY WEDNESDAY Augusr 26th for the host to know how much and what food to bring and prepare. Also be sure to advise of any food allergies or restrictions. September 4-7, Labor Day Weekend Camping Trip, Blue Mountain Campground, Saugerties NY Join us for family camping in the Catskills! We have reserved several campsites, which will allow us to form our own large group area at Blue Mountain Campground. Each site contains a campfire ring and picnic table, however, we may have a larger site designated for group activities. Bathrooms/showers and potable water are located a short walk away. There is also a playground, pool, rec hall, outdoor pavilion, organized games, and other amenities for everyone! September 10-13, Camping Trip, Cape Cod Camping, North Truro MA We'll be camping on the outer Cape, just south of Provincetown! Enjoy the beach, hiking, and scenic bicycling in this beautiful area, or do some exploring in town. We'll be camping, nestled in the pines, at North of Highlands Campground. It is only a short 1/2 mile walk to Head of the Meadow Beach. Fun and funky Provincetown is a 7 mile bike ride from camp. The campground provides clean bathroom and shower facilities, a laundry room, camp store and recreation hall. We made the best effort to have our campsites grouped in one area, however, the campground determines final locations upon check-in. First come first served, and carpooling is recommended. September 18-20, Camping Trip, AMC Harriman Outdoor Center, Haverstraw NY The Stephen and Betsy Corman AMC Harriman Outdoor Center is an ideal destination for anyone looking for hiking, paddling, and camping opportunities in the heart of Harriman State Park at Breakneck Pond. Harriman State Park, New York's second largest park, is located 30 miles from Manhattan and accessible by public transportation. We have reserved 2 campgrounds with 4 or 5 platforms or leantos each. September 24-28, Camping Trip, Assateague Island National Seashore, Assateague MD Camp behind the dunes on this beautiful barrier island off the coast of Maryland. Wonderful wild ponies share the island with people! We have reserved 11 oceanside campsites for 4 nights. These are walk-in sites; vehicles can park near the site but campers will need to carry equipment on a boardwalk about 300 feet in to the dunes. Rent kayaks, canoes, and SUPs at the canoe/kayak rental lot, and paddle on the calm bay side of the island. This trip is a longer drive than most. Join us for the long weekend!
